Anthropomorphism by Lenore Lee
Analysis: In this particular poem the figurative language, "Anthropomorphism" is used throughout the entire poem. Although the poet, Lenore Lee compares animals to humans in each stanza ending them with the question "Isn't that just like a human? What makes them different from us?" As
Lee continuously compares humans to animals, and animals to humans it seems as though he believes we are all in the same, doing the same exact things. "Puppies barking at the sound of danger, To protect their home from a stranger. Isn't that just like a human? What makes them different to us?" The following quote explains how just as humans are alarmed by danger and try to protect themselves and their families, puppies do the exact same. Therefore the question continues to remain throughout the poem, how are humans and animals any different other then their physical appearance? At the end of the poem Lee changes his format a bit by asking the question what makes humans different from animals, as it states in the poem "People fighting for no reason, People enjoying all of the teasing. Isn't that just like an animal? What makes us different to them?" Lenore Lee has explained that just as humans fight and like to make fun of each other, animals do the same as well, therefore both humans and animals are one in the same.
Literary Devices: Repetition: "Isn't that just like human? What makes them different from us?" This question is repeated throughout the story which makes readers ask themselves honestly how different are they from animals. Also the repetition helps Lee state his point about about animals and and humans being almost exactly alike.
Anthropomorphism: "Female tigers protecting their cubs, While the male goes hunting in the shrubs." In the following quote it explains how female tigers protect their children, while the male tigers go to provide for their families. Which is the same as human families do for each other, the father is the provider just as the tiger is the hunter. The tigers have human characteristics to compare how both animals and humans life are similar.
Imagery: "Birds chirping back and forth", this is a form of imagery because it gives the readers a vivid and clear image of what is happening as if they are experiencing these things in real life.
