Theme For English B by Langston Hughes
Analysis: In the poem "Theme for English B" by Langston Hughes, he explains that everyone can learn from each other, no matter the circumstance or situation, especially the difference in ethnicity. "Go home and write a page tonight. And let that page come out of you--- Then, it will be true." In the poem a twenty-two young man has to write an essay for English, but by doing this he tries to figure out who he is, he tries to find himself. In the poem Hughes uses the word "colored" several times throughout the poem, emphasizing what the young man looks at himself to be, basically before he comes to the conclusion that everyone is the same, yet different in their own way and has knowledge to share upon each other to learn. "I guess being colored doesn't make me NOT like the same things other folks like who are other races. So will my page be colored that I write? Being me, it will not be white. But it will be a part of you, instructor. You are white--- ." In the following quote he realizes that even though he is colored, he and his peers are alike in many ways and are inseparable.
